So yes… You can, but you can not accept it from Harkon. Vampire Lord is also pretty good for stealth builds. It boosts your sneaking and illusion. If you get to higher levels, a lot of illusion spells aren't strong enough, so the boost helps, and stacks with fortify illusion potions.
Serana can die. Joining the Volkihar vampires requires you to first complete the quest Awakening. This is your only opportunity to join the ranks of the clan itself. She is equipped with an elven dagger. During the quest Chasing Echoes, she will offer to turn you into a Vampire Lord. After completing the quest Kindred Judgment, she can be asked to turn you into a Vampire Lord at any time.
Once you're cured again, you can cure Serana. After completing the quest, Bloodline will begin. After escorting Serana to Volkihar Keep, Lord Harkon will offer you membership within the clan and the ability to become a Vampire Lord. As the Dawnguard you get a crossbow that you can upgrade through side quests.
It can become one of the more powerful bows in the game. Head through the gate to come to a huge amphitheater with several leveled undead pacing about. Here you will find a boss chest with leveled loot and a word wall that teaches a word of the Drain Vitality Shout.
Behind the Word Wall is an altar table with a few coin purses and 2 random enchanted weapons. After dealing with the enemies and getting the desired loot, head out through the gated door at the opposite end of the room from where you came in. Now, you are ready to take Serana to her father at Castle Volkihar. This location is in the northwest corner of the map. You will be able to see it from a great distance away. The easiest way to get there is to take the boat at Icewater Jetty , which is reachable on foot, by fast travel, or by hiring a ferryman to take you there.
Activate the boat and you will arrive at Castle Volkihar. Bone hawks circle overhead and a stone bridge lined with gargoyles is in front of you. Beyond, the castle looms. About halfway across the bridge, Serana will initiate conversation: she wants you to keep quiet and let her do the talking. The Watchman will open the gate when he sees his lady. Open the door and step into the castle where Serana's father is waiting. A vampire named Vingalmo will confront you; but he backs off when he sees Serana and goes to announce her to the group gathered in the main hall.
Descend into the hall and watch the reunion between Serana and Lord Harkon. After that, Harkon will initiate conversation with you. He will tell you there is only one thing he can give you to thank you: his blood. You now have a choice to make. You can stick with the Dawnguard and you will be allowed to leave the castle in peace for your service, or you can join the Volkihar vampires and take on the mantle of a Vampire Lord.
If you choose to become a Vampire Lord, Harkon will bite you as everything fades out. When you wake up, you and Harkon will be in the Volkihar Cathedral. Harkon will begin teaching you how to use your Vampire Lord powers, which include raising dead and draining life, as well as a claw attack. He also explains a few things, such as his history and that of his family, if you ask him about them. If you are already a vampire , he will say you just contracted a disease and explain that what he offers you is true vampirism.
Either choice leads to the same follow up: "I am Harkon, lord of this court. By now, my daughter will have told you what we are. He will expand on this by mentioning "For centuries we lived here, far from the cares of the world. All that ended when my wife betrayed me and stole away that which I valued most. The next set of questions relate to a potential reward where Lord Harkon offers to bestow the power of a Vampire Lord unto the Dragonborn.
What happens now? There is but one gift I can give that is equal in value to the Elder Scroll and my daughter. I offer you my blood. Take it, and you will walk as a lion among sheep. Men will tremble at your approach, and you will never fear death again. Do I get a reward for finding your daughter? Yes, you most certainly deserve a reward.
The next set of questions are dependent upon if the Dragonborn is already a vampire, werewolf or neither. He demonstrates his immense power by transforming into a Vampire Lord himself:. I'm already a vampire. What more can you offer me? Accept my gift and I promise that you will learn the difference. Refuse me, and I will banish you from this castle. I will spare your life this once, but after that, you are prey. I'm a werewolf. What will happen if I accept your gift?
The power of my blood will purge that filth and make you whole again. And if I refuse your gift? I will spare your life this once, but you will be banished from this hall. Perhaps you still need convincing? Behold the power! This is the power that I offer! Now, make your choice! If Harkon's offer has been accepted, the Dragonborn will awaken in the castle cathedral where Harkon stands before an altar and explains some of his history. He then proceeds to teach the Dragonborn how to use the vampiric powers which include Blood Magic, Night Powers and fighting "as beasts do".
The power is growing within you, and now you must learn to wield it. I'm ready to learn about my new powers: "With my guidance you will become a deadly instrument, striking terror in the hearts of mortals wherever you tread. Now, listen to my words and do as I instruct. The true power of the ancient blood is found in the form of the Vampire Lord. Assume the mantle of the Vampire Lord, and we will continue.
With your left hand, you can wield the power of blood magic to raise the dead. You can also call upon the powers of night to turn into a swarm of bats and reappear some distance away. Should you run out of magicka, you can descend to the ground and fight as the beasts do. Do so now and we will continue. You are weaker while on the ground, because you cannot access the blood magic. However, the night powers are still yours to command, and your claws are still formidable weapons.
Over time, your powers will grow in strength and you will find new ways to use your gifts. Slaying mortal men with your life drain grants you new night powers and blood magic. I keep a stable of thralls in the castle should you need to feed like the baser vampires to stave off the sun. That is all I have to teach you. If you wish to be reminded of these lessons, you need only ask. I have a task that will test your new powers, but first, do you have any questions?
What happened? How did I get here? At first, the body is overwhelmed by it. After my bite, you collapsed and fell into a slumber. Now your flesh has acclimated to the new blood that courses through your veins. I assure you, no harm was done. In truth, your strength surprises me. Not all mortals can withstand my embrace. What is this place? Our power is a blessing from him.
